The serenity and vastness of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau stand as a testament to China’s commitment to ecological conservation and high-quality development. On a recent Tuesday, the city of Xining in Northwest China’s Qinghai Province welcomed foreign delegates who, like many before them, left profoundly impressed by the advancements and harmony they witnessed.
Journey Through Time: Witnessing China’s Evolution
Rajan Bhattarai, a significant figure in Nepal’s political circles and the former foreign affairs adviser to the erstwhile Nepali prime minister Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli, has a long-standing relationship with China. Since his first visit in 1993, Bhattarai has witnessed a nation in perpetual growth. His recent visit underscored a significant difference from his trip in 2018: the vast improvement in China’s environment.
He remarked to the Global Times, “Here in Qinghai, the transformation is palpable. The emphasis is on leveraging alternative clean energy sources, a clear testament to the country’s dedication to perfecting the environment after effective pollution control measures.”
A Global Gathering in Qinghai
Bhattarai was far from alone in his observations. Over 150 representatives from various domains – political parties, media organizations, and think tanks – spanning 30 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America gathered at the event dedicated to Qinghai’s ecological achievements.
Qinghai, situated at the heart of the world’s most expansive and highest plateau, plays a pivotal role in the ecological balance of the region. It is the birthplace of majestic rivers: the Yellow River, Yangtze River, and Lancang River.
The Delicate Art of Diplomacy
Bhattarai, an integral member of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) and head of the Foreign Affairs Department, manages diplomatic relations with the Communist Party of China (CPC) and various international parties. In his words, the Chinese leadership’s prowess remains unparalleled, especially when considering their swift poverty alleviation programs, effective governance, technological advancements, and robust environmental protection measures.
The Multifaceted Qinghai: Ecology and Ethnic Diversity
Qinghai stands out not only for its ecological significance but also for its rich ethnic diversity. It is home to several ethnic minorities, including the Tibetan, Hui, Tu, and Salar communities, lending to its vibrant tapestry of cultures.
Christophe Lavernhe, a renowned French professor of physical economy, highlighted the intriguing convergence of diverse social themes and endeavors in Qinghai. Drawing parallels with issues faced by France, Lavernhe found Qinghai’s comprehensive approach towards economic development, ethnicity, ecology, and technological progress inspiring.
Speaking about the Chinese Communist Party’s role, he said, “The remarkable journey of numerous Chinese citizens from extreme poverty to prosperity showcases the efficacy of what the Chinese leadership offers.”
He further added, “This success isn’t exclusively a Chinese phenomenon. Its implications are universal.”
Understanding the Dynamics of Diverse Populations
For Lavernhe, an essential aspect lies in comprehending the collective good and educating a vast and diverse populace, particularly in a country with 56 distinct ethnic groups. “Grasping how Chinese leaders are managing this dynamic can provide valuable insights for other nations. In France, for instance, we face challenges with our burgeoning immigrant populations in the suburbs,” Lavernhe noted.
A Comprehensive Tour of Qinghai’s Marvels
The delegates’ itinerary in Qinghai was extensive. They explored the Museum of National Resources of Qinghai Province and delved into the intricacies of the region at the Exhibition Center and Ecological Big Data Center of Sanjiangyuan National Park. Their experience was further enriched with a visit to the Qinghai Trina Solar company in Xining.
The tour’s next leg encompassed visits to the Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Here, they witnessed the breathtaking Yangtze River Source village, Qarhan Salt Lake, Kanbula Geopark, GuoMori Castle, and the Regong Painting Institute.
In Conclusion: Qinghai as a Beacon of Hope
Qinghai’s ecological, economic, and social progress serves as a beacon for nations globally. The blending of modern advancements with the preservation of nature and culture is a testament to China’s forward-looking vision. As the delegates departed, they carried with them not just memories, but invaluable lessons from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. Lessons of harmony, development, and a future where man and nature coexist in perfect balance.
