This insightful event saw the joint efforts of the United Nations in China and the Embassy of Spain, further bolstered by the support of the Delegation of the European Union.

The primary objective of this seminar was to provide a platform for the exchange of ideas, strategies, and goals that each participating country intends to present at COP28. The broader aim was to understand and align expectations, priorities, and potential challenges. By engaging in these discussions prior to COP28, the objective is to foster unity and collaborative action on pressing climate change issues.

Many influential voices took center stage at this event. These included the Spanish Ambassador to China, Rafael Dezcallar de Mazarredo; Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN Resident Coordinator in China; Zhang Yongxiang, chief researcher at the National Climate Center China; the Brazilian Ambassador to China, Marcos Galvao; the Ambassador of the European Union to China, Jorge Toledo Albinana; and the Ambassador of Mozambique to China, Maria Gustava. Each of these representatives offered unique insights on the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change and underscored the importance of cooperative international efforts.

Ambassador Dezcallar de Mazarredo was particularly vocal about the dire need for collective action. He highlighted how the looming threat of climate change is jeopardizing the very fabric of life on our planet. Addressing the broader audience, he shared, “We want to work together with China. Our collaboration can draw from various areas of expertise, including technological cooperation, energy market transitions, and the pursuit of emissions neutrality. Energy efficiency, a pivotal aspect of our climate strategy, can also benefit from this cooperative venture. Our commitment is unwavering, and we are open to augmenting our cooperation across all spheres.”

Beyond these discussions, the event also served as a vital brainstorming session, aimed at generating actionable paths leading to ambitious and tangible agreements at COP28. It was clear that all participating members sought a clearer comprehension of their respective stances. Moreover, there was a unanimous emphasis on understanding the significance of the Global Stocktake scheduled at COP28.
