In a resounding tribute to a landmark historical event, the Tianjin Conservatory of Music has meticulously revived and staged the ethnic opera, “Bond of Unity”. The opera was performed at the renowned China National Opera House over the weekend to mark the 70th anniversary of the victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53).
Originally composed and brought to life in 1981, the timeless opera encapsulates the heroic spirit of the war. It serves as a tribute to the indomitable bravery of the soldiers, particularly the central character Huang Jiguang, and his comrades. Moreover, it extols the enduring camaraderie between the Chinese People’s Volunteers army and the Korean people during their shared resistance against US aggression.
Gracing the production were esteemed vocalists Wang Hongwei and Huang Huali, who deftly embodied the valor and camaraderie of the war heroes. Their moving performances, combined with the opera’s distinctive melodies and regional characteristics, deeply resonated with the audience.
The revival of “Bond of Unity” was a collaborative effort involving a robust team of creators and contributors from across the music and theatre industry. Guided by veteran experts such as Qiao Peijuan, the production team comprised dedicated professionals and enthusiasts working together to bring this iconic opera back to the stage.
Adding to the opera’s auditory richness was an 80-member youth symphony orchestra and a 110-member youth chorus, all comprising talented students and faculty members from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music. The resounding music and powerful voices filled the China National Opera House, creating an immersive experience for the audience.
This vivid performance transported the audience back to a time of upheaval, capturing the spirit of heroism, sacrifice, and unwavering unity that marked this significant period in history.
