Videos of these routines have amassed about 182 million views on Bilibili.com, a platform popular with the youth. The practice is even being compared to workouts by German fitness influencer Pamela Reif, but tailored to Chinese habits.

Baduanjin is especially beneficial for office workers, with research suggesting it can alleviate symptoms such as anxiety, muscle pain, and extreme fatigue. The exercise requires no special equipment and can be performed in a small space, often accompanied by soothing music. This makes it an ideal activity for those confined to desk jobs or living in urban environments where space and time are limited.

The resurgence of baduanjin is part of a broader trend in China where workers are turning to traditional health practices to cope with the pressures of modern life. This includes the integration of Chinese herbal medicinal ingredients like tangerine peel, cinnamon, and astragalus root into everyday items like milk tea, popularized on social media platforms such as Xiaohongshu.

Another traditional practice gaining popularity is tree hugging, viewed as a way to absorb energy from nature and alleviate stress. This method, once a secret among the elderly, is now being embraced by younger generations looking to disconnect from the stresses of urban living.

These health trends reflect a deeper cultural shift towards integrating ancient wisdom with modern lifestyles, providing a holistic approach to health that resonates with today’s wellness-oriented generation.
