BusinessChina's Ministry of Science and Technology reaffirms support for ChatGPT-like AI technologies

China’s Ministry of Science and Technology is reaffirming its commitment to supporting the country’s artificial intelligence (AI) sector as a strategic emerging industry. The Ministry recently expressed its admiration for ChatGPT, the natural language processing technology developed by OpenAI, and highlighted its potential to be applied in various industries and fields.

Chen Jiachang, who heads the Ministry’s high-tech department, spoke about ChatGPT’s recent success at a news briefing on Friday. “This technology has the potential to be applied in various industries and fields,” said Chen. “We believe it has a promising future.”

China has been steadily investing in AI for the past few years, and the government has been taking active steps to guide the development of this emerging industry. In fact, over the past two years, the Chinese government has formulated principles of governance for the new generation of AI and a code of ethics to guide the technologies in a better direction, according to Chen.

Moreover, Chinese scholars have been working on innovative technologies to support the AI sector. They have put forward the theory of “neuromorphic completeness” and developed a heterogeneous fusion brain chip. These developments showcase China’s commitment to not only investing in AI but also in developing cutting-edge technologies that can advance the field.

Chinese research institutions and companies have also been working on developing ChatGPT-like technologies that have reached an internationally advanced level. This includes the first AI application that combines graphics, text, and audio.

The Ministry of Science and Technology believes that AI will continue to be a strategic emerging industry and a new growth engine in China’s economy. As such, it will continue to give strong support to AI by promoting the deep integration of AI with the economy and society and perfecting technologies in major application scenarios.

In conclusion, China’s Ministry of Science and Technology is positioning the country to be a leader in AI. With the government’s active support and investment in emerging technologies, as well as the growing number of innovative developments by Chinese scholars and companies, the future looks bright for the country’s AI industry.
