Chinese carmaker GAC Aion has launched presales for the Hyper GT, the first model under its new Hyper marque, in Shanghai ahead of the Shanghai auto show. The model is built on Aion’s AEP 3.0 platform, and is available in five variants, with prices ranging from 219,900 yuan ($32,002) to 339,900 yuan. One version of the Hyper GT is compatible with battery-swapping technology, while the one-motor rear-wheel-drive version can produce up to 250 kW output and a maximum torque of 434 Nm.
With a sporty design that reduces its air drag coefficient to 0.197, the Hyper GT can go from zero to 100 km/hour in just 4.9 seconds, making it one of the most high-performing EVs in its class. The marque is expected to compete with the likes of Tesla, and its models will feature the latest technology from GAC Aion.
The Hyper marque is targeted at tech-savvy young car buyers, with the aim of capturing rising demand in the Chinese market for high-performance electric vehicles. Aion aims to build an independent sales network for the marque, which is expected to cover 350 dealerships by the end of the year. The marque was unveiled in 2022, and Aion is one of the most popular EV makers in China, with sales increasing by 97% year-on-year to 40,016 units in March, bringing the total to 80,308 vehicles in the first three months of 2023. The Hyper GT is expected to be available in the market starting from June.
