Alibaba Expands Access to Qwen3 AI Models Across Developer Platforms

BusinessAlibaba Expands Access to Qwen3 AI Models Across Developer Platforms

Alibaba Group has expanded the accessibility of its Qwen3 family of artificial intelligence models by making them available on several popular developer platforms. The move is part of the company’s strategy to accelerate the global adoption of its open-source AI systems and to strengthen its presence in the international tech community. The Qwen team recently announced that the models can now be deployed through large language model (LLM) platforms such as Ollama, LM Studio, SGLang, and vLLM.

Originally released last month by Alibaba’s cloud computing division, the Qwen3 suite includes eight upgraded AI models. These models now support a range of formats to ease local deployment for developers. Options include the GPT-generated unified format, activation-aware weight quantisation, and generalised post-training quantisation, allowing for greater flexibility and performance tuning in diverse environments.

The expansion underscores the rapid progress within China’s AI industry, particularly Alibaba’s role in shaping the future of open-source artificial intelligence. The company, based in Hangzhou, has been steadily gaining recognition for its contributions to the development of accessible AI technologies. This latest release bolsters its standing as a leader in the global open-source AI landscape.

Qwen3 has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing DeepSeek’s R1 model to become the top-ranked open-source AI model globally, according to LiveBench, an independent benchmarking platform. LiveBench evaluates open-source LLMs across a broad spectrum of performance categories, including coding, mathematics, data processing, and language instruction capabilities. These metrics reflect the model’s versatility and power in supporting advanced generative AI applications.

The open-source nature of Qwen3 allows developers worldwide to access and modify the source code, which facilitates innovation, enhances transparency, and enables broader collaboration across the AI development ecosystem. By embracing this model, Alibaba is fostering a community-driven approach to AI development that contrasts with more closed, proprietary systems.

Earlier this year, Qwen-powered models were already among the top 10 open-source LLMs globally, as noted by Hugging Face, a prominent collaborative platform for machine learning and AI development. The growing popularity of Qwen3 highlights its robust capabilities and Alibaba’s commitment to making cutting-edge AI tools more accessible to the wider developer community.
