Xiaomi Ends Software Support for 19 Devices in 2026, Leaving Many Without Android 17

BusinessXiaomi Ends Software Support for 19 Devices in 2026, Leaving Many Without Android 17

Xiaomi is set to discontinue software updates for a significant number of its devices in 2026, impacting users across its Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO brands. This move means that many popular models will not receive future Android OS upgrades, including the anticipated Android 17, and will eventually cease receiving security patches.

The End of the Line for Popular Models

Xiaomi, known for its frequent device releases, is now drawing a line under software support for 19 of its smartphones and tablets. This decision affects a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly options to more premium models released in 2022. The primary reason cited for this shift is the hardware limitations of older chipsets, which are no longer capable of smoothly running the latest Android kernels required for new operating system versions.

Affected Devices and Support Timeline

While the exact end-of-life dates vary, many devices will see their support conclude throughout 2026. This means users will be stuck on their current Android version, with future HyperOS updates built upon that older foundation. Although security patches will continue for a limited time, they too will eventually stop, leaving devices vulnerable.

The list of devices losing support includes:

  • Xiaomi: Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro (March 2026), Xiaomi 12 Lite (July 2026), Xiaomi 12T, Xiaomi 12T Pro (October 2026).
  • Redmi: Redmi Note 12 5G (March 2026), Redmi Note 12 Pro (April 2026), Redmi 12C (March 2026), Redmi 13C (November 2026), Redmi A2, Redmi A2+ (March 2026), Redmi Pad SE (August 2026), Redmi Pad SE 8.7, Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G (August 2026).
  • POCO: POCO X5 Pro 5G (February 2026), POCO F5, POCO F5 Pro (May 2026), POCO C65 (November 2026).

Should Users Upgrade?

While these devices won’t suddenly become unusable, the cessation of updates, particularly security patches, presents a growing risk, especially for users who handle sensitive information like online banking. Xiaomi advises users to consider upgrading to newer models that offer extended software support to ensure continued security and access to the latest features. The company does offer some newer devices with promises of up to four major Android OS updates and six years of software support.
