Hyundai Motor Group has officially launched the MobED Alliance in Seoul, marking a decisive move to bring its advanced mobile robot platform—MobED—out of the lab and into practical use across multiple industries in Korea.
Having dazzled audiences at global events like CES 2026 and iREX 2025, Hyundai’s MobED (Mobile Eccentric Droid) platform is now pivoting from tech demonstration to business reality. The MobED Alliance, announced at Automation World 2026, is the heart of this transition—connecting a broad coalition of partners, including component suppliers, robotics solution specialists, and public agencies, to accelerate MobED’s market entry.
The MobED Alliance employs a four-sided model bringing together:
- Hyundai Motor Group Robotics LAB: Provides core MobED technology and leads platform advancement.
- Component Suppliers: Including Hyundai Transys and SL Corporation, responsible for sensors, electronics, and batteries.
- Robotics Solution Companies: Such as LS THiRA-UTECH and Kaon Robotics, in charge of tailor-made deployments and on-site customization for diverse industries.
- Public Agencies: Like the Korea Association of AI Robot Industry, supporting demonstrations and fostering adoption infrastructure.
This collaboration aims to launch up to 10 industry-specific MobED modules—spanning outdoor delivery, drone patrol stations, and digital signage—highlighting the platform’s flexibility and adaptive capabilities.
MobED stands out for its highly maneuverable design, featuring four independent wheels that automatically adjust height to traverse complex environments—be it curbs, uneven surfaces, or ramps. Its open platform allows for various top-mounted modules, making it a versatile solution for logistics, security, advertising, and beyond.
Notable Technical Features
- Self-leveling on rough terrain
- Modular top device integration
- Indoor/outdoor operation
At the Seoul event, Hyundai has dedicated a 180-square-meter booth for live MobED demonstrations. Attendees can test the robot’s abilities in three dedicated zones:
- Manual Driving Zone: Experience hands-on driving over obstacles.
- Autonomous Driving Zone: See MobED navigate challenging surfaces on its own.
- Broadcasting Zone: Observe the stability and utility with specialized equipment, such as cameras.
These interactive sessions highlight MobED’s transformative potential—offering practical applications and user-friendly controls.
By launching the MobED Alliance, Hyundai Motor Group aims to forge a robust business model covering both corporate and government customers. This alliance is expected to spark a virtuous cycle of innovation, strengthen Korea’s robotics sector, and establish the nation as a leader in practical robotics solutions.
Industry observers view the alliance as a landmark step—shifting robotics from R&D showcases to credible, scalable services making real-world impact.
