Images of Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang signing a woman’s tight-fitting top at an expo in Taiwan have sparked a media and online frenzy. A video posted on Threads on June 4 shows Huang surrounded by fans at Computex 2024, one of Asia’s leading computer exhibitions. When a woman exposed her breast area and asked Huang to sign her top, he hesitated, asking, “Is that a good idea?” Ultimately, Huang fulfilled her request, leading to widespread attention.

The woman later shared a photo of the signed top on Instagram, expressing her excitement: “Adrenaline rush today, my wish fulfilled! I shook hands with the ‘AI Godfather’, and he also signed my phone case and clothes. Hoping for great fortune this year!” The incident took place on June 4 at Computex 2024 in Taipei, which runs from June 4 to 7 and highlights technological advancements in information and communications technology.

Stock Talk posted a photo of Huang signing the woman’s top on X, captioning it: “This image is not AI generated.” Reactions varied, with one online observer suggesting the top could sell for US$500,000, while another saw no issue with Huang fulfilling a fan’s wish. However, some on mainland social media criticized the act as disrespectful. Nvidia’s response was brief, stating, “Thank you for reaching out, we’ll decline to comment.”

Jensen Huang, a Taiwanese-American businessman and electrical engineer, founded Nvidia in 1993. The company has become the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer and a key player in artificial intelligence (AI) applications. Nvidia’s development of the graphics processing unit (GPU) in 1999 revolutionized the PC gaming market and modern AI. As of June 5, Forbes estimated Huang’s net worth at US$102 billion.

Huang, 61, is celebrated in Taiwan for his contributions to AI and his friendly demeanor, earning the nickname “the Godfather of AI.” In November 2022, Huang appeared in a street live-stream in Taiwan, requesting Lady Gaga songs and receiving praise for his approachability.

On June 2, Huang delivered an inspiring keynote speech at Computex 2024, explaining how the AI era is driving a new global industrial revolution. He stated that computers are “no longer just an instrument for information storage or data processing, but a factory for generating intelligence for every industry.”

The incident at Computex 2024 underscores Huang’s iconic status in the tech world, reflecting both his influence and the public’s fascination with his persona.
