China’s PLA: Heroes on the Frontline of Disaster Relief, Safeguarding Peace

ChinaChina's PLA: Heroes on the Frontline of Disaster Relief, Safeguarding Peace

Nanchang, East China’s Jiangxi Province, witnessed a stirring flag-raising ceremony at Bayi Square to commemorate the 96th anniversary of the August 1 Nanchang Uprising and the establishment of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). On August 1, 1927, the Communist Party of China initiated its first military resistance against counterrevolutionaries, marking the historic day when the PLA was founded.

The nation united in the spirit of “supporting the army and loving the army,” with citizens holding China’s national flags and expressing their reverence for the Chinese soldiers, often referred to as the “loveliest people” in China. Social media platforms, including Sina Weibo, were abuzz with well-wishes and tributes to these brave soldiers.

Currently, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region is grappling with the aftermath of Typhoon Doksuri, causing severe flooding. In the face of this natural disaster, the PLA soldiers and police officers once again rushed to the frontline of flood prevention and relief, dedicating their time to rescue and support efforts even during festivities.

In response to a red warning for heavy rainfall in Beijing, the capital’s armed police unit acted swiftly by deploying over 2,000 officers and soldiers with rescue equipment to the disaster zone. They conducted prompt evacuations and successfully rescued over 100 trapped individuals.

The PLA’s mission extends beyond traditional military operations. In addition to safeguarding the nation’s borders and countering aggression, they engage in non-combat activities such as counter-terrorism, anti-piracy, humanitarian relief, and disaster prevention and mitigation. The dedication of PLA service personnel is commendable, as they remain committed to their duties on holidays and festivals, ensuring a peaceful and harmonious environment for their country.

An army corps of the Xinjiang military command recently honored its officers and soldiers with a ceremony and commemorative medals for their contributions to protecting the motherland’s prosperity. Soldiers like Yang Chuan expressed their determination to enhance their capabilities and defend the northwestern border.

China faces an uncertain global landscape, highlighting the importance of a robust military. Military experts emphasize that preparation for potential conflict is crucial to maintaining peace. Strengthening the PLA’s military capabilities is seen as a means to prevent war and consolidate peace. As the PLA continues to grow stronger, it aspires to safeguard China’s sovereignty, security, and development interests, while promoting regional and global peace. Looking toward the middle of the century, experts envision a powerful PLA that plays an instrumental role in safeguarding peace and prosperity, both domestically and internationally. By striving to become a stronger and more capable military force, the PLA remains dedicated to its mission of preserving peace and ensuring the safety and growth of the nation and its people.
