The city of Wuxi, situated in East China’s Jiangsu Province, recently became the stage for an enthralling exhibition dedicated to ceramic art and design. This exhibition, an initiative of Tsinghua University, showcases the captivating fusion of tradition and innovation inherent in the field of ceramic art.

Dr. Yang Fan, the project leader and a doctoral supervisor from Tsinghua University’s Department of Ceramic Art and Design, shared his insights into the relevance of the exhibition. He highlighted that ceramic art, a pivotal part of Chinese cultural heritage, faces the essential challenge of fostering innovation in a contemporary context.

The exhibition also underscores the indispensable role of educators in nurturing talent and fostering progress in the domain of ceramic art and design. Yang stressed that “Strengthening higher vocational education of ceramic art and design is a pioneering effort in Chinese education. The roles of the teachers are crucial as they serve as a significant link in the educational chain.”

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Qin Chuan, secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University (AADTHU), drew attention to the participating teachers’ substantial contributions to the project. He said, “In this exhibition, those frontline teachers who participated in the training project have made a difference. They are also the protagonist of the exhibition, walking from behind the scenes to the front stage.”

This exhibition serves as a vivid testament to the evolving landscape of ceramic art and design in China, reflecting the dynamic interplay of tradition and modernity, artistic inspiration, and practical innovation. Simultaneously, it foregrounds the pivotal role of educators in cultivating this art form, imparting valuable skills, and driving the advancement of the field.
