On July 15, an important meeting marked a significant stride towards enhancing the cultural ties between China and Spain. In a cordial exchange, Spanish Ambassador to China, Rafael Dezcallar, and the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) President, Wang Ning, discussed ways to facilitate deeper collaborations between cultural and art organizations of both nations.
This meeting held particular importance as 2023 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain. Both countries, with their centuries-old histories and rich cultural tapestries, have shared a longstanding friendship, reflected in their diplomatic ties and mutual appreciation for each other’s cultural heritage.
In his conversation with Ambassador Dezcallar, Wang Ning acknowledged the NCPA’s ongoing relationship with various Spanish organizations and artists. Since its inception, the NCPA has been an active participant in cultural exchanges with Spain, resulting in a number of successful initiatives. These initiatives include the introduction of imported performances from Spain, organization of international tours, and institutional collaborations that have significantly contributed to the global art scene.
To celebrate the occasion, the NCPA had arranged a special performance featuring Spanish guitar artists and the China NCPA Orchestra. The concert showcased an exquisite blend of classic works by Chinese and Spanish composers, symbolizing the amicable relations between the two nations.
Expressing his hope for the future, Wang Ning remarked, “The NCPA hopes to plan various cultural exchange events with the Spanish Embassy to promote dialogue and exchanges with global civilizations as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain.”
Echoing the sentiments of Wang Ning, Ambassador Dezcallar voiced his appreciation for the NCPA’s efforts in fostering cultural exchanges between the two nations. He expressed a keen desire to further enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between China and Spain through increased cultural exchanges and mutual visits.
This interaction underscored the role of art and culture as significant conduits of diplomatic relations. As the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain approaches, it is evident that the shared history and cultural exchange between these two nations will continue to strengthen their bond, fostering a more profound understanding and appreciation of each other’s rich cultural heritage.
