Between August 12 and 17, a celebrated Russian children’s dance troupe showcased their talent in Beijing, marking their first-ever performances in China. The troupe, renowned for its numerous awards from international art festivals and dance competitions, had previously toured 17 countries and performed across Russia. The Russian Cultural Centre in Beijing reported that the troupe’s performances, held at multiple venues in the city, featured the essence of Russian dance art and folk dances for Chinese audiences.

The series of performances commenced on August 12 with a ‘Love for Russia’ themed concert at the Russian Cultural Centre. The opening act, titled ‘Motherland,’ featured young performers adorned in white, blue, and red costumes, representing the Russian national flag, and delivered a captivating performance. Subsequent performances took place on August 14 and 16 at the Tiantongyuan Cultural and Art Center in Changping district and the Tongzhou District Cultural Center. Besides their standard repertoire, the young Russian dancers presented their signature program ‘Kalinka,’ an adaptation of a Russian folk song composed in 1860. These performances, which consistently exemplify high-quality dance skills, provided an unforgettable artistic experience for the audience.

The final performance occurred on August 17 at the China Millennium Monument, where the dance troupe shared the stage with several other Chinese children’s art troupes. The ensemble of beautiful dance routines left a lasting impression on all attendees, and the vibrant costumes added a final flourish to the meticulously choreographed program.

In addition to their stage performances, the Russian troupe also conducted several folk dance workshops, sharing their expertise with enthusiastic participants. These interactive sessions included lively and intriguing training courses on fundamental movements in Russian folk dance. Participants also had the unique opportunity to perform alongside the troupe members.

Overall, the visit of the Russian children’s dance troupe to Beijing was a resounding success. Their series of performances and workshops not only showcased the rich traditions of Russian dance art and folk dances but also fostered cultural exchanges between the young performers and the local Chinese audiences.
