CultureCelebrating Diversity at Pakistan Embassy College Beijing’s International Culture Day

The Pakistan Embassy College Beijing (PECB) recently hosted its annual International Culture Day, an event that has become a beacon of cultural diversity and mutual respect. The 2023 festivities, themed “Bringing the World Together,” were a vibrant showcase of the college’s commitment to fostering an environment of mutual learning and cooperation.

Inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Khalil Hashmi, the Ambassador of Pakistan to China, the event was a grand affair attended by diplomatic envoys from various countries, alongside students, parents, teachers, and members of both the Pakistani and international communities in China.

Ambassador Hashmi, in his opening address, lauded the Embassy College and its students for their exceptional organization of the event. He emphasized how such cultural displays play a crucial role in advancing mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration among diverse cultures and traditions. He highlighted culture’s unique power to build bridges and cement friendships between nations.

This year’s International Culture Day coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Over the past decade, these initiatives have not only achieved significant milestones but have also deepened the bonds of friendship between China and Pakistan. The ambassador underscored the event’s importance in strengthening China-Pakistan relations, viewing it as a platform to further the vision of a China-Pakistan Community of Shared Future.

The event was a colorful tapestry of cultural activities. It featured traditional music and dance performances, art displays, costumes, and cuisines representing over 25 countries. Each presentation was a window into the unique traditions and customs of different nations, celebrating the rich diversity of the global community.

Adding to the cultural richness, Chinese calligraphers demonstrated the art of traditional Chinese culture. Their works, including characters like “Fu” (fortune) and “Dragon,” were not only an exhibition of skill but also symbolized blessings and good fortune. Some of these artworks were sold for charity, adding a philanthropic dimension to the event.

One of the highlights was the “We’re Amazing” chorus performed by the younger students of PECB. Ambassador Hashmi applauded the students, acknowledging their impressive talent and enthusiasm.

The event left a lasting impact on attendees. An embassy staffer expressed how meaningful the festival was for her and her children, noting its role in broadening their international perspectives. She shared her excitement about her daughters’ participation in a special African dance performance. Similarly, a Chinese student named Chen remarked on the beauty of Pakistani cultural clothing, appreciating its rich colors and distinctiveness, and expressed admiration for the enduring China-Pakistan friendship.

International Culture Day at PECB was more than a celebration; it was a reflection of the world’s cultural mosaic and a testament to the power of cultural exchange in bringing communities together.
