CultureUAE Pavilion Opens at SCO International Investment and Trade Fair

The city of Qingdao, located in East China’s Shandong Province, was the host of the recent SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation) International Investment and Trade Fair, which took place from June 15 to June 18. At the fair, Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the UAE Ambassador to China, along with Zhang Xinzhu, a Standing Committee member of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and head of the SCO Model Zone, inaugurated the UAE Pavilion.

During his remarks at the event, Zhang expressed his congratulations for the establishment of the UAE national pavilion and emphasized the importance of the SCO Model Zone as a hub for economic and trade collaboration. He highlighted the Zone’s commitment to nurturing platforms and demonstration models that advance these goals, initiatives that have garnered mutual recognition and support from both China and the UAE. Going forward, he stated that the Model Zone would further foster ties with UAE enterprises, thereby facilitating their expansion into the Chinese market.

Hammadi, in his remarks, focused on the UAE’s new relationship with the SCO as a member of the “family”. He expressed the UAE’s eagerness to collaborate with China and other member nations to foster peace and prosperity, drive regional growth, and contribute to international peace and development.

The ambassador also highlighted the blossoming commercial relationship between the UAE and China, which has already borne significant fruit. He noted that bilateral trade between the two nations had reached $100 billion, and was projected to double by the year 2030. He added that the UAE had brought 13 exhibitors to the fair, all of whom were eager to explore opportunities for cooperation, bolster their development capacities, and build solid partnerships with both Chinese and international entities.

In May, the UAE was formally granted the status of an SCO dialogue partner, marking a new chapter in its involvement with the SCO. As a result of its new status, the UAE Embassy in China actively participated in the 2023 SCO International Investment and Trade Fair. It was the largest exhibitor in the national pavilion, a testament to the country’s commitment to the organization.

A group of 13 UAE-based companies, operating in sectors ranging from finance and investment to high technology, new materials, and tourism, joined the UAE national pavilion at the fair. These firms showcased the UAE’s cutting-edge initiatives and practices in a range of fields, including aerospace, environmental protection, artificial intelligence, and smart city development.
