Brad Pitt’s highly anticipated Formula One movie is slated for a global release on June 25, 2025, with a North American debut following two days later. The announcement was made by F1 and Apple Original Films on Tuesday. The film, which is being created in collaboration with Formula One teams and drivers, is directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for the blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick,” and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Distribution will be handled by Warner Bros. Pictures, with screenings in cinemas and IMAX.
Seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is serving as a co-producer on the project. Filming began last year and has continued during selected Grand Prix weekends this season. The production team has established a fictional 11th team, “APX GP,” complete with a garage and pitwall stand for authenticity.
The storyline features Brad Pitt, portraying a former driver who makes a dramatic comeback to Formula One, teaming up with a rookie driver played by Damson Idris. The cast also includes Academy Award winner Javier Bardem and best supporting actress nominee Kerry Condon. Formula One has confirmed that the movie’s production will wrap up at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.
This movie aims to build on the success of the Netflix docu-series “Drive to Survive,” which has significantly increased Formula One’s popularity, especially in the United States. With three U.S. races now on the calendar in Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas, the sport’s footprint in the American market is growing.
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, who will be joining Ferrari at the end of the season, expressed optimism about the film’s impact last year. “We’ve already seen the great work and impact of the Netflix show, and I think this will take it to new heights beyond that,” Hamilton said.
By intertwining a compelling narrative with the high-octane world of Formula One, the film is expected to captivate both racing enthusiasts and general audiences alike. The collaboration with actual F1 teams and drivers ensures a level of authenticity that fans will appreciate, while the involvement of Hollywood heavyweights like Brad Pitt and Joseph Kosinski promises top-tier entertainment.
As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to build for what could be a landmark film in both the sports and entertainment industries. The movie not only aims to entertain but also to further cement Formula One’s status as a globally popular sport, continuing the momentum generated by recent media efforts to bring F1 closer to fans around the world.
