Mick Jagger Thrives on Tour at 80, Energizing Audiences Worldwide

CultureMusic & TheaterMick Jagger Thrives on Tour at 80, Energizing Audiences Worldwide

Mick Jagger, the iconic frontman of the Rolling Stones, continues to defy age as he thrills audiences with his signature energy and charisma on the “Hackney Diamonds” tour. At 80 years old, Jagger’s return to the stage feels much like it did at 78, as he himself puts it. A day after a packed show outside Boston, he reflected on the experience, noting that it took a couple of performances to find his groove, but now he’s fully immersed and feeling great.

Despite singing “What a drag it is getting old” back in the 1960s, Jagger, who turns 81 on July 26, shows no signs of slowing down. He is still having a blast and has no plans to stop rocking anytime soon. Currently, the Rolling Stones are touring the U.S., but Jagger revealed that they are open to exploring opportunities to perform in other countries next year. Europe, South America, or anywhere fun could be on the itinerary, depending on the offers they receive.

The ongoing tour is named after the critically acclaimed album “Hackney Diamonds,” which the Stones debuted last October, marking their first new material in 18 years. Jagger, alongside bandmates Keith Richards, 80, and Ronnie Wood, 77, commands the stage for two hours at each stop. Fans consistently praise Jagger for his vigorous performances, characterized by his gyrating, stomping, sprinting, and world-famous swagger. A New York Times review highlighted his increasing energy as the night progresses, suggesting that the Rolling Stones might never stop performing.

Jagger attributes his enduring vitality to his sheer enjoyment of performing. “I just enjoy it,” he said. “Really, that’s the answer. I just love doing it.” This passion fuels a dynamic exchange with the audience, creating a feedback loop of energy and enthusiasm. When the audience is having a good time, so is Jagger, and this mutual enjoyment keeps him energized.

Looking ahead, Jagger mentioned the likelihood of the Rolling Stones releasing more new music soon. This prospect excites fans who eagerly await fresh material from the legendary band. As the “Hackney Diamonds” tour continues to captivate audiences across the U.S., Jagger’s undiminished zest for performing and his unwavering connection with fans underscore the timeless appeal of the Rolling Stones.
