Pop star Dua Lipa dazzled the crowd at Glastonbury on Friday evening, turning the iconic Pyramid Stage into an electrifying open-air nightclub. Thousands of fans grooved to her hits such as “Levitating” and “Houdini,” as the 28-year-old British-Albanian singer headlined the renowned music festival in southern England for the first time.

Lipa’s glittery, high-energy performance featured impressive firework displays, five different outfits, and an ensemble of break dancers and musicians. She expressed her delight at achieving a lifelong dream of performing on the Pyramid Stage, a venue graced by legendary artists like Paul McCartney, Beyoncé, and David Bowie over the festival’s 50-year history. “Little me would just be so beside herself right now,” Lipa said. “Honestly, I couldn’t believe it. I feel so grateful.”

Born in London to Kosovo Albanian parents, Dua Lipa began her musical journey by covering songs of other pop artists and uploading them to YouTube as a teenager. This led to a record deal in 2014 when she was just 18. She has since achieved significant success, winning two Grammy Awards in 2019, including Best New Artist.

The Glastonbury crowd erupted into dance during her performances of hits like “New Rules” and “Love Again.” Sophie Page, a 30-year-old fan from London, praised Lipa’s performance, saying, “We’re obsessed. Dua was on another level. I knew she was going to be good, but the energy she brought … her emotion really came through.”

Adding to the night’s excitement, Lipa brought Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, a collaborator on her latest album, on stage for a duet of “The Less I Know the Better.” This collaboration was a highlight of her set, showcasing her diverse musical influences and connections.

Dua Lipa joined a lineup of headliners that included Coldplay, R&B singer SZA, and country music star Shania Twain. This year’s lineup featured more female talent, addressing previous criticisms about the male-dominated roster from last year.

Dua Lipa’s performance at Glastonbury not only marked a milestone in her career but also set a high bar for future acts on the Pyramid Stage. Her ability to captivate and energize the audience affirmed her status as one of the leading pop stars of her generation, leaving fans eagerly anticipating her next big performance.
