LifestyleLaila Harilela's Culinary Journey: Favorite Eateries and Personal Cooking Tales

Laila Harilela, known for her role as the Public Relations Director at Harilela Hotels, which includes prominent establishments like The Hari and Holiday Inn Golden Mile, is not just a hospitality expert but also a passionate food enthusiast. Her love for food is deeply rooted, influenced by her father’s culinary recreations and her Chinese nanny’s cooking.

Her adventurous palate led her to explore various cuisines, though she fondly recalls how her preference for steamed salted fish once left her with a stinky apartment, much to her neighbors’ chagrin. Despite the occasional mishap, her love for diverse flavors remains undiminished.

Harilela’s gastronomic journey takes her across a range of cuisines. She expresses a particular fondness for The Satay Inn at The Fullerton, where she enjoys the chicken curry and vegetable dishes complemented by the serene ocean views. Another favorite is Grand Majestic Sichuan, where she indulges in the flavors of Sichuan amidst a vibrant ambiance, though she notes the music can be a bit overwhelming.

When it comes to Cantonese cuisine, her preference lies with Loong Yuen, located in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. Their unique take on Chinese fried chicken and Peking duck, along with familiar comfort dishes, keeps her returning. For a quick and satisfying meal, she opts for Mak’s Noodle in Tsim Sha Tsui, famous for its broth and bite-sized wontons.

Kam Kee Cafe in Kowloon Tong is her go-to for local delights like salted fish diced chicken fried rice and stir-fried noodles. Her love for Thai cuisine takes her to Namo Avant Thai Restaurant, where basil chicken is a must-try. For a Mediterranean vibe in Hong Kong, she recommends The Bayside, perfect for enjoying pizzettes and a glass of champagne.

Her culinary adventures extend beyond Hong Kong. In Lisbon, Portugal, she reminisces about Pateo, a unique dining concept with a trio of restaurants and a bar offering a panoramic view of diners below. The beauty and atmosphere of Pateo left a lasting impression on her.

Laila Harilela’s journey through the world of food reflects not only her diverse tastes but also her appreciation for both local flavors and international cuisines. Her experiences capture the essence of a true food lover, finding joy in both cooking at home and exploring the myriad of flavors offered by restaurants around the world.
