Shocking Online Video Shows Worker Using Mouth to Debone Lamb Ribs in China

LifestyleShocking Online Video Shows Worker Using Mouth to Debone Lamb Ribs in China

A recent viral video from Anhui province, Eastern China, has ignited a firestorm on social media. The footage, originating from a local butcher’s shop, depicts a male worker employing a rather unconventional method to debone raw lamb ribs: using his mouth. Claimed to be a decades-old technique, the act has raised significant concerns regarding hygiene and safety for both the worker and potential consumers.

The video, which has garnered substantial attention, shows the worker confidently removing the bones from the meat using his mouth, a method he claims to be quicker than using traditional tools. He asserts that an expert can do this without leaving any saliva on the meat. However, this claim has been met with skepticism and disgust by many viewers.

The local district administration for market regulation swiftly responded to the video, stating that the shop had been investigated. Officials revealed that the video was merely a publicity stunt designed to attract followers online and dismissed the idea of it being an ancient technique. They clarified that using one’s mouth to debone raw lamb ribs is not a traditional practice.

The video’s publication has sparked widespread outrage and concern on social media platforms like Weibo. Users expressed their disgust at the lack of hygiene and the potential health risks associated with handling raw meat in such a manner. One user highlighted the dangers of parasites found in raw meat, which could pose a life-threatening risk to the individual performing the deboning.

The incident also reminded some of previous reports about certain Chinese deli processing factories where workers allegedly used their mouths to debone chicken feet, a popular snack in the country. However, an associate professor at the College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering refuted this claim. She explained that the high volume of production in these factories makes it impractical to debone chicken feet manually using one’s mouth. Furthermore, she clarified that chicken feet sold as deli snacks are rarely boneless, and the deboning process in restaurants is typically carried out by chefs using appropriate tools.

This bizarre incident underscores the importance of adhering to proper food safety and hygiene practices in the food industry. It also highlights the responsibility of food businesses to avoid misleading the public with potentially hazardous practices, even if their intent is to gain social media traction. As the video continues to circulate, it serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and education regarding food handling and preparation methods.
