The local district administration for market regulation swiftly responded to the video, stating that the shop had been investigated. Officials revealed that the video was merely a publicity stunt designed to attract followers online and dismissed the idea of it being an ancient technique. They clarified that using one’s mouth to debone raw lamb ribs is not a traditional practice.
The video’s publication has sparked widespread outrage and concern on social media platforms like Weibo. Users expressed their disgust at the lack of hygiene and the potential health risks associated with handling raw meat in such a manner. The incident also reminded some of previous reports about certain Chinese deli processing factories where workers allegedly used their mouths to debone chicken feet, a popular snack in the country. However, an associate professor at the College of Food Science and Nutritional Engineering refuted this claim. She explained that the high volume of production in these factories makes it impractical to debone chicken feet manually using one’s mouth. Furthermore, she clarified that chicken feet sold as deli snacks are rarely boneless, and the deboning process in restaurants is typically carried out by chefs using appropriate tools.
