Iconic Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani brought his latest collection to New York on Thursday night, unveiling his Spring 2025 line at a grand show in the Park Avenue Armory. The collection, titled “In Viaggio” (On a Journey), was a tribute to the city that has inspired countless dreams and imaginations. The event also marked the opening of Armani’s new building on Madison Avenue, which features private residences, Armani boutiques, and a restaurant.
The 90-year-old designer, who has been at the forefront of fashion for decades, opened the show with a female model dressed in a short beige jacket and trousers tucked into dark boots. This was followed by a male model dressed as a porter, carrying suitcases, setting the tone for the collection’s travel theme. A variety of sleek, modern outfits followed, dominated by beige and grey hues. The men’s designs featured shiny suits, while the women’s collection included loose jackets, blouses, and trousers.
As the show progressed, Armani incorporated darker tones like greys, blues, and browns into his designs, keeping the travel inspiration alive with relaxed, comfortable looks. Models wore flowing, long silky blouses paired with matching trousers, and silk jackets were layered over shorts and sheer tops. Armani described his inspiration for the collection, saying, “New York, for me, has always been linked to the many films that have deeply shaped my imagination. Thinking of the city in the ‘30s and ‘40s never ceases to inspire me.”
The show also featured long dresses, printed jackets, and silky trousers in soft pink and peach shades. Armani’s evening wear made a statement with sparkling embroidered frocks, slim trousers, and sequined jackets, primarily in gentle pinks and blues, offering a perfect blend of sophistication and glamour. Accessories ranged from boots and sandals to caps and woven belts, seamlessly completing the travel-inspired looks.
Armani usually showcases his Giorgio Armani and Emporio Armani collections during Milan Fashion Week, but this season he chose New York as the backdrop for his main line to coincide with the grand opening of his new building. This New York event was a nod to the city’s influence on the fashion industry and its pivotal role in shaping Armani’s own creative journey.
In a recent interview, Armani, who founded his eponymous brand in 1975, mentioned that he plans to retire within the next two to three years, sparking curiosity about the future of the brand and who might take over the fashion empire he built.
