Robert Redford, the legendary actor, director, producer, and champion of independent cinema, has died at the age of 89. He passed away at his home in Sundance, Utah, surrounded by his loved ones, according to his publicist. The cause of death was not disclosed. Known for his striking looks, charisma, and versatile talent, Redford became one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars, while also reshaping the film industry through his advocacy for independent filmmaking.
Often dismissed early in his career as “just another California blond,” Redford soon proved his depth, captivating audiences in romantic dramas such as Out of Africa, political thrillers like The Candidate and All the President’s Men, and complex roles that challenged his golden-boy image, including The Electric Horseman and Indecent Proposal. His breakthrough came in the late 1960s alongside Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, followed by their celebrated reunion in The Sting (1973). Despite their enduring friendship, the two never appeared on screen together again after those classics.
