In a celebration of rich cultural heritage and diplomatic ties, Beijing’s historic Prince Gong’s Mansion will unveil its grand fashion showcase in the heart of Paris on September 27. This initiative aims to amplify cultural exchanges and collaborations between the two global stalwarts, China and France.

Prince Gong’s Mansion is steeped in history and architectural brilliance. Originally erected as the private abode of He Shen, an eminent grand secretary during the Qing Dynasty that spanned from 1644 to 1911, it stands today as a testament to regal grandeur. The mansion earned its contemporary moniker in 1851 when Yixin, popularly known as Prince Gong, took residence. With its meticulously crafted woodwork adorned with elaborate paintings, verdant glazed tiles, picturesque lakes, and man-made hills, the mansion is often hailed as a paragon of ancient Chinese architectural design.

As 2023 rings in the 59th year since the inception of diplomatic ties between China and France, this unique fashion collaboration carries added significance. The spotlight will illuminate around 35 luxury garments, born from a creative collaboration between the historic Prince Gong’s Mansion and the globally acclaimed fashion visionary, Lawrence Xu.

This collection promises a harmonious marriage of eastern and western sensibilities. While the essence of western tailoring forms the garments’ backbone, the soul is distinctly Chinese. The richly textured Yunjin, a time-honored Chinese silk brocade, forms the fabric’s core, further embellished with intricate embroidery techniques from Miao and Suzhou traditions.

Lawrence Xu, the mastermind behind these designs, has etched a global reputation through his exceptional creations. Predominantly recognized for his red-carpet masterpieces, Xu seamlessly infuses traditional Chinese craftsmanship and motifs into his work. His creative genius has not only graced global celebrities but also earned a place in illustrious institutions, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Speaking at a recent press meet in Beijing, Xu articulated his vision for this collaboration. He remarked, “The Prince Gong’s Mansion Fashion Show is more than a mere showcase. It’s a dialogue – a conversation between the East and the West, a bridge between time-tested classics and contemporary innovation. Through this platform, we intend to present the world with a vivid panorama of China’s open, diverse, and unique cultural canvas. Moreover, it signifies a renewed chapter in the ever-evolving cultural interplay and mutual appreciation between China and France.”

With this Parisian showcase, the world of fashion is set to experience a riveting blend of heritage and modernity, underlined by the shared commitment of two nations to foster understanding and unity through art and design.
