Christian Dior paid homage to Scotland at a stunning catwalk show held in Perthshire’s historic Drummond Castle. The event unveiled Dior’s Cruise 2025 collection, featuring an array of tartan designs and thistle motifs. Hollywood celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence and Anya Taylor-Joy, were among the guests who gathered in the castle’s picturesque gardens to witness the show.
Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri infused the collection with elements of Scottish culture, blending traditional kilts with a modern punk twist for the womenswear line. The models showcased an impressive variety of tartan asymmetric dresses, cropped and belted jackets, shorts, and corsets. The collection also included argyle knits, capes, and lace or velvet frocks, each varying in length and volume. Some pieces featured fringes, embroidered thistle motifs, or maps of Scotland. Additionally, certain designs were adorned with images from Christian Dior’s 1955 fashion presentation at the nearby Gleneagles Hotel.
Chiuri drew inspiration from Tudor styles, as evidenced by voluminous layered bodice dresses. Some of the shorter frocks had an armor-like appearance. A notable influence came from a book about Mary, Queen of Scots and her embroidery work, which inspired Chiuri’s designs. One standout piece was a white shirt tucked under a white corset, embroidered with powerful words in red, including “fierce,” “hysterical,” “emotional,” and “bossy.”
For this collection, Chiuri collaborated with Scottish designer Samantha McCoach, the creative force behind the brand Le Kilt. This partnership brought a unique blend of Scottish tradition and contemporary fashion to the runway. The looks were completed with accessories like chunky black boots, long black gloves, and pearl-adorned chokers, adding a bold and edgy touch to the overall presentation.
Chiuri emphasized the significance of Scotland in the fashion world, noting her desire to reinterpret its influence in a fresh and innovative way. She highlighted the association of Scotland with punk for her generation but explored Scottish heritage through its rich textiles for this collection.
Cruise, or resort, collections are produced by designers in addition to their main seasonal collections and are often showcased in various international locations. Dior’s choice of Drummond Castle as the venue for this event underscored the brand’s commitment to celebrating and reimagining cultural heritage through high fashion.
