On July 25th, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs played host to the fifth installment of an insightful series titled “Diplomatic Envoys’ Visits to State-owned Enterprises”. This time, the spotlight was on the China Railway Group. The event provided a platform for diplomatic envoys from various embassies and international organization agencies in China to glean a deeper understanding of the workings of the state-owned enterprise.

Nearly 100 participants marked their presence at the event. The guest list was adorned by 12 ambassadors from countries such as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Somalia, Moldova, Switzerland, Samoa, and Suriname. Furthermore, 12 chargé d’affaires ad interim were in attendance, along with a representative of an international organization based in China. Such a diverse attendance amplified the global impact of the event.

The event was proudly supported by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council. This collaboration underscored the Chinese government’s commitment to fostering an open and transparent relationship with international partners, particularly concerning its state-owned enterprises.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of China Railway Group, Chen Yun, was joined by the President of the Group, Chen Wenjian. Together, they discussed the commitment of the group to driving high-quality development. Central to their presentations was the group’s significant projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a global infrastructure development strategy adopted by the Chinese government.

The visitors expressed admiration for China’s impressive advancements in infrastructure construction. These areas spanned railway, highway, and rail transit systems. The envoys were keen to deepen cooperation with China in these fields in the future. An aspiration was voiced to join hands with China in building the BRI, signaling a mutual commitment to advancing global infrastructure.

An anecdote from the visit highlighted the remarkable strides made by the Chinese railway system. A diplomat from the Embassy of Honduras in China shared his experience of traveling on the high-speed train from Beijing to Shanghai. He was quick to laud the speed, comfort, and convenience of the journey, emphasizing the lack of cumbersome boarding procedures. The diplomat further remarked on the convenience of arriving right in the center of Shanghai and having immediate access to the subway system.

The series of visits, exemplified by this recent trip to the China Railway Group, is a testament to China’s commitment to fostering global relationships and promoting international understanding of its state-owned enterprises. Through these insightful events, China continues to build bridges across the globe and pave the way for future cooperation and mutual growth.
