WorldAmericaBorder Patrol official Bovino, some agents set to leave Minneapolis amid unrest

Federal officers clashed with anti-ICE protesters outside a Minneapolis hotel late Sunday, as anger continued to build over the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse killed during a confrontation involving immigration enforcement agents.

Demonstrators gathered outside a Home2 Suites by Hilton after activists said federal immigration agents were staying there. Video footage and witness reports described protesters chanting, damaging property, and spraying graffiti on the building as armed officers guarded the entrance. Federal agents used tear gas and other chemical irritants to disperse the crowd, escalating the standoff and triggering further outrage among local officials.

The unrest comes as tensions remain high in Minneapolis following the shooting, which has become a national flashpoint in the debate over immigration enforcement tactics and the use of federal officers in major US cities. The incident has also fueled calls for investigations and tighter oversight of federal operations.

On Monday, CNN reported that Gregory Bovino, a top US Border Patrol official, and some agents were expected to leave Minneapolis and return to their assigned sectors, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump said he would dispatch White House border czar Tom Homan to work with local officials following the shooting, as the administration faces growing political pressure over the situation and protests continue.

With tensions still elevated, officials have warned that further demonstrations are possible, especially as the federal presence remains a major point of controversy in the city.
