China’s Xiamen launches its first BRICS air cargo route to Brazil

WorldAmericaChina's Xiamen launches its first BRICS air cargo route to Brazil

Xiamen, a bustling coastal city in southeast China, has just announced the launch of a cutting-edge air cargo and logistics service connecting it to São Paulo, Brazil. This exciting new venture is a result of a partnership between the city and Ethiopian Cargo & Logistics Services, the logistics arm of Ethiopian Airlines. This marks a significant milestone for both Xiamen and São Paulo, as the two cities are now more closely linked than ever before. The new service, which was officially launched on February 10th, 2023, is poised to revolutionize the way goods are transported between the two countries and beyond.

According to Tekle G/Yohannes, Chief Representative of Ethiopian Airlines Greater China & Mongolia, the launch of a new freight transport route will pave the way for the growth of aviation logistics between Brazil and China. As the largest trading partner of Brazil, Fujian Province holds a significant position in the partnership and the new cargo route will only strengthen it further.

Lowering the cost of logistics, the route will boost cross-border e-commerce as Xiamen, a hub for Fujian’s trade with Brazil, is now connected via the cargo route. Operated by a Boeing B777F freighter, the route will have two weekly flights connecting Xiamen in China to São Paulo and Santiago in Brazil via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The exports through this service will primarily consist of high-value-added goods such as medical products, hi-tech products, and integrated circuits.

As Ethiopian Airlines celebrates the 50th anniversary of its passenger service to China, which first took flight in 1973, the airline is launching new flights with a bold emphasis,” according to a press release from the company.

And in 2020, Xiamen, the host city of the 2017 9th BRICS Summit, debuted the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center, solidifying its place as a hub for innovation and progress.
