Shenzhen, a major city in southern China, is planning to construct 10,000 new 5G base stations by the end of 2023, according to an action plan issued by the municipal industry and information technology bureau. The city already has over 65,000 5G base stations and over 10 million 5G users since 2019. With this new construction, the city will have a density of 42 5G base stations per 10,000 people and 37 per square kilometer.
As a leader in China’s high-tech industry, Shenzhen is home to many of China’s tech giants, including Huawei and Tencent. With the rise of 5G technology, cities across China are racing to build more base stations to support the growing number of users and provide faster, more reliable network connections.
The 5G technology is expected to bring transformative changes in various sectors, including autonomous vehicles, robotics, and healthcare. With the implementation of 5G networks, users will enjoy higher internet speeds and lower latency, enabling real-time interactions and streaming of high-quality content.
China has made significant strides in the development of 5G technology, with the country having the world’s largest 5G network. As of October 2022, China had 1.81 million 5G base stations, covering all prefecture-level cities and most counties across the country. The Chinese government has also been promoting the development of 5G technology as a crucial component of the country’s economic development strategy, with plans to invest more than $400 billion in 5G infrastructure over the next decade.
With Shenzhen’s latest action plan, the city is poised to continue leading the way in China’s high-tech industry and further cement its status as a global tech hub.
