Chinese Groom Skips Traditional Wedding Games with Locksmith’s Help

LifestyleChinese Groom Skips Traditional Wedding Games with Locksmith's Help

In an unconventional twist to traditional Chinese wedding customs, a groom from Baoding, Hebei province, has amused netizens by employing a locksmith to bypass the playful challenges known as “door games” typically faced by grooms on their wedding day. The incident, which quickly gained popularity online, showcased the groom’s inventive approach to the longstanding Han Chinese ritual of “picking up the bride.”

In these traditional ceremonies, the groom is expected to undergo various humorous tasks and challenges to prove his dedication and earn entry into the bride’s room. This usually involves handing out red envelopes filled with money to the bride’s friends and family in exchange for clues and permission to pass through each door.

However, on November 9, the groom, known as Jiao, decided to take a different route. With a relationship spanning over six years, Jiao was familiar with his wife’s home and decided to call upon a locksmith friend to assist in unlocking the door to the bride’s room. The locksmith, dressed in a formal suit complete with company branding, quickly unlocked the doors, surprising everyone inside.

Jiao’s strategy was both efficient and cost-effective. He boasted about spending less than a minute from the courtyard gate to the bride’s room and only a small sum for a red envelope at the main door. The entire episode was shared on the Bailu Video platform, where it garnered significant attention.

The bride’s room was unlocked in just three seconds, much to the amusement of those gathered for the wedding. This humorous approach to bypassing traditional wedding games sparked a series of anecdotes from other couples who shared their unique experiences of circumventing the ritual.

One person recounted how her husband obtained a hotel room card from a cleaning lady to bypass the games, while another admitted to stealing a set of keys from her mother-in-law’s house before the wedding. Earlier in February, another groom in Anhui province creatively broke through a window to reach his bride, an act humorously dubbed as a “special forces rescue” by online viewers.

Jiao’s innovative approach to his wedding day not only provided a humorous story but also reflected a growing trend among modern couples to adapt and personalize traditional rituals to suit their preferences and circumstances.
