Director Guy Ritchie‘s new action-adventure film Fountain of Youth reunites stars Natalie Portman and John Krasinski on a thrilling journey inspired by classic adventure movies they loved growing up. In the film, Portman and Krasinski play estranged siblings Charlotte and Luke, who set aside their differences to search for the legendary spring said to grant eternal youth to those who drink or bathe in its waters.
For Krasinski, making the movie was a nostalgic experience that took him back to the kind of films that sparked his childhood imagination. The 45-year-old actor and director described the project as a dream come true, recalling how he and his brothers used to pretend to be part of similar adventures. “This is what I used to pretend to do,” he said. “To be in a movie that I used to pretend to be in with my brothers is totally surreal.”
Natalie Portman, an Oscar-winning actress, pointed out that the film draws heavily from beloved franchises like Indiana Jones and National Treasure, though it stands out by centering on a sibling rivalry that fuels much of the story. The mix of high-stakes adventure, breathtaking locations, and imaginative storytelling brings a fresh yet familiar energy to the genre.
The plot picks up a decade after the death of their adventurer father. Luke is determined to continue his father’s treasure-hunting legacy, while Charlotte, an art curator settled in London, struggles with the aftermath of a difficult breakup and raising her young son. When Luke invites her to join his latest quest, backed by a wealthy businessman played by Domhnall Gleeson, Charlotte reluctantly agrees, sparking a globe-trotting journey filled with danger and discovery.
Fountain of Youth opens with an exhilarating chase through the vibrant streets of Bangkok and takes audiences across stunning locations, including the waters of Ireland, Vienna, Vatican City, and the iconic Pyramids of Giza. The film also features Eiza Gonzalez as Esme, a mysterious character whose presence adds depth to the story. Gonzalez, who previously worked with Ritchie on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and In the Grey, described the shoot as a “family-driven” experience with a close-knit crew and a sense of camaraderie that made the production feel like a fun camp.
The film combines the excitement of classic adventure tales with modern storytelling, celebrating family ties, sibling dynamics, and the universal longing for connection and discovery.
