Four-time NBA Champion Steph Curry is already preparing for life beyond the basketball court. At 36, Curry is not only one of the most accomplished players in NBA history but also a savvy businessman with ventures that include a media company, Unanimous Media, and a youth golf tour called Underrated. As Curry contemplates his post-basketball future, he has set his sights on potentially owning an NBA team.
“For me, that’s definitely on the table,” Curry shared in a recent interview. He believes he can contribute to sustaining the NBA’s success and understands what it takes to run a championship-caliber organization. His interest in ownership is partly inspired by the examples set by other basketball legends, such as Michael Jordan’s former ownership of the Charlotte Hornets, and the potential for NBA expansion in the coming years.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver hinted in July that the league might consider expanding after its recent media deal. This new 11-year agreement, valued at around $77 billion, starts after the upcoming season, sparking more speculation about new franchises being added, with Las Vegas as a potential location. Curry’s longtime rival and fellow NBA superstar LeBron James has expressed interest in owning a team, particularly if Las Vegas receives a franchise.
While Curry is enthusiastic about future opportunities, he remains committed to his basketball career. He recently signed a one-year contract extension worth $62.6 million, keeping him with the Golden State Warriors until 2027, when he’ll be 39 years old. Despite nearing the tail end of his career, Curry emphasized that he still has much to accomplish on the court before stepping into any new roles.
Drawing inspiration from Golden State Warriors owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, Curry has observed what it takes to create a first-class organization. “The investment that it takes to create that first-class experience so we feel taken care of allows us to hoop at a high level,” he remarked, reflecting on the environment that has helped him and the Warriors succeed.
As Curry continues to build his legacy on and off the court, his blend of athletic excellence and business acumen ensures that his impact will be felt in the NBA long after his playing days are over.
