Jimmy Liao’s Immersive Interactive Painting and Drama Exhibition Kicks Off in Beijing

CultureArtJimmy Liao's Immersive Interactive Painting and Drama Exhibition Kicks Off in Beijing

Last week, the Today Art Museum in Beijing opened its doors to an extraordinary display of creativity and imagination: The Found and the Lost, a unique immersive interactive painting and drama exhibition. This exhibition, which runs until October 10, is the first of its kind to be hosted by the museum and features the works of renowned Chinese picture book author, Jimmy Liao.

Over the years, Liao has captured the hearts of readers, young and old alike, with his enchanting and evocative picture books. His themes often revolve around the duality of life, exploring concepts of possession and loss, perfectly encapsulated in this new exhibition. It spotlights five of Liao’s iconic picture books, namely, A Fish with A Smile, When the Moon Forgot, Mr Wing, Missing My Cat, and Turn Left, Turn Right.

The Found and the Lost exhibition goes beyond the conventional static display of artworks. It transforms Liao’s intricate paintings into immersive experiences, allowing visitors to physically interact with them and engage with their narratives on a deeper level. The exhibition is not just a visual feast but also provides opportunities for visitors to partake in DIY interactive experiences and purchase souvenirs as keepsakes from their visit.

The immersive exhibition is more than a collection of Liao’s picture books; it is an entry point into his unique world. By cleverly integrating music, scenes, and narrative storytelling, the organizers have transformed the traditionally flat 2D format of picture books into vibrant, three-dimensional experiences. Each carefully curated scene is like stepping into a page from Liao’s picture books, truly bringing his stories and characters to life.

To enhance the immersive aspect of the exhibition, renowned musician Chen Jianqi was commissioned to create theme music that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Liao’s works. As visitors wander through the exhibition, Chen’s musical score provides an auditory backdrop that further immerses them in Liao’s imaginative universe.

The Found and the Lost exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience Jimmy Liao’s world in a new, interactive way. Whether you’re a fan of his work or new to his artistry, this immersive painting and drama exhibition promises to provide a memorable and inspiring experience.
