The enchanting world of Harry Potter, created by renowned British author J.K. Rowling, continues to captivate audiences, years after the conclusion of the book and film series. “Harry Potter: The Exhibition”, a new interactive experience that has recently opened its doors at The Londoner Macao, is set to charm both longtime enthusiasts and new admirers of the magical universe.
Spanning over 30,000 square feet, this extensive exhibition houses over 20 galleries, meticulously designed to immerse visitors in the world of Harry Potter. It features a vast collection of original props and costumes from the film franchise, as well as elements from the Broadway play “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child”.
Attendees are invited to delve deep into the wizarding world by selecting their own Hogwarts house, choosing a wand, and discovering their Patronus. The exhibition promises a host of interactive experiences, from concocting magical potions and handling shrieking Mandrakes to practicing the art of Quidditch. Iconic settings such as the Great Hall, complete with floating candles, and various Hogwarts classrooms, come to life, offering fans a chance to step right into their favorite scenes.
Julian Moon, Warner Bros. Consumer Products’ Senior Vice-President, shares that after successful launches in the US and Europe in 2022, the exhibition has largely remained the same to maintain its unique appeal. With over 1.7 million visitors worldwide, this edition in Macau marks its first venture into the Asia-Pacific region.
Each visitor is equipped with a specially designed wristband embedded with a chip to personalize their journey through the exhibition. Highlights include Hagrid’s hut, the Forbidden Forest, and scenes from “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”. Additionally, costumes from “Harry Potter and The Cursed Child” enhance the collection. Tom Zaller, President and CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, emphasizes the importance of interactive storytelling and multisensory experiences, from ambient sounds to distinctive scents, in making the exhibition a truly immersive journey.
Zaller highlights the exhibition’s appeal across generations, attracting a broad audience from young fans to those who have grown up with the series. The organisers are monitoring the response to decide on the exhibition’s tenure, with hopes of it being the largest yet.
In addition to the immersive experience, the exhibition also features an exclusive retail shop offering unique merchandise, alongside the iconic Butterbeer, adding to the magical experience for Potterheads of all ages.
