Revolutionizing TCM Culture: Innovations and International Recognition

LifestyleHealthRevolutionizing TCM Culture: Innovations and International Recognition

The 2023 International Communication and Exchange Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Culture in Beijing marked a significant stride in the global promotion and innovation of TCM. During the event, “Top 10 Typical Cases of the First TCM Culture International Communication Case” were awarded, highlighting the innovative ways TCM is participating in international events.

Among these cases, the 10-second TCM experience hall, showcased at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, was a standout. This marked the first time TCM culture was featured in a world-class sports competition. The hall, located in the square area of the Beijing Winter Olympic Village, played a crucial role in popularizing TCM culture among the over 2,000 residents in the village.

The hall featured an electronic screen that provided a historical overview of TCM and China’s 5,000-year civilization. It also had a 3D visualized body meridian map, allowing visitors to quickly grasp the complexities of the human body related to acupuncture points and meridians. For the Paralympics, the hall underwent specific modifications to offer a more accessible and considerate experience for visitors with disabilities.

Wang Qi, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, addressed the conference, differentiating between TCM as a science and TCM culture. He emphasized the need for creative transformation and innovative development of TCM culture, integrating contemporary scientific culture and strengthening interdisciplinary approaches. Wang advocated for building an ecological environment that fosters coexistence and prosperity of TCM culture and multiculturalism. This involves enhancing cultural awareness and confidence internally while seeking broader international recognition externally.

TCM culture’s creative transformation has been increasingly valued for its international communication potential. Wu Binjiang, chairman of the conference organizing committee and head of the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, stressed that TCM, while originating in China, has now become a global phenomenon. He suggested integrating TCM culture with the economy and other cultural aspects to develop distinctive Chinese medicine systems that contribute positively to the world.

Wu urged for active international communication and cooperation, sharing TCM ideas and experiences, and promoting its integration with other medical systems. He also highlighted the importance of scientific research and innovation in TCM, utilizing modern technology for in-depth studies to improve its scientific value and effectiveness.

These innovations and the growing international recognition of TCM culture represent a significant advancement in the field of health and medicine. They not only enhance the global understanding of TCM but also contribute to the development of a more integrated and holistic approach to healthcare worldwide.
