LifestyleChinese Teacher's Heartfelt Speech Goes Viral, Inspiring Acceptance of Life's Failures

In a profound and touching speech that has resonated with millions, a secondary school teacher from Shaanxi province, China, known as Zhu, has captured the hearts of netizens with her realistic and uplifting message to her students. Ahead of the pivotal gaokao university entrance exams in 2024, Zhu sought to motivate and prepare her students not just academically, but emotionally and mentally, for the challenges of life.

Zhu’s speech, which she recorded and shared via video on Douyin, quickly went viral, amassing over 4 million views since its posting on December 13. In her message, Zhu emphasized the importance of accepting life’s inevitable failures, whether they be academic, professional, or personal. She encouraged her students to face the future with resilience, reminding them that success is not defined by a flawless journey but by the strength to persevere through hardships.

Using a metaphor, Zhu held up her coffee mug and likened it to life, saying, “No matter how worn out the coffee mug in your hand is, it is a good mug as long as it can hold coffee.” This simple yet powerful analogy struck a chord with many, illustrating that the value of life lies in its purpose and utility, not in its appearance or perceived perfection.

Zhu’s speech included reflections on her own life, which she described as “mediocre but delightful.” She incorporated renowned Chinese poet Hai Zi’s poem “Facing the Sea with Spring Blossoms” and added her own interpretation, challenging students to be grounded and “down-to-earth”
