A Chinese woman, known by her alias Wang Nuannuan on Douyin, has announced her pregnancy, sparking joy and support on mainland social media. Wang, who survived being pushed off a 34-meter-high cliff in Thailand by her husband in June 2019, lost her three-month-old baby in the horrific incident. Her remarkable journey of recovery has captivated many, and the news of her pregnancy has been warmly received.
Wang endured severe injuries from the fall, including 17 bone fractures. Her recovery required over 100 steel pins and 200 stitches, along with multiple surgeries and intensive rehabilitation. Last year, she regained the ability to stand and walk by herself.
On June 1, International Children’s Day, Wang shared the joyous news of her pregnancy through a video on Douyin, reported by the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald. “I didn’t expect I could own a miracle again. I remember on the day my kid left me, my heart was empty,” she said in the emotional video. She expressed her gratitude and hope for the future, looking forward to celebrating next year’s Children’s Day with her new baby.
The video, which has garnered 700,000 likes, shows Wang devoutly burning joss sticks at a Buddhist temple. When asked by her followers about her pregnancy, Wang revealed it was achieved through in vitro fertilization (IVF). The details of where the procedure took place remain unclear, as Chinese medical institutions require marriage certificates and identity cards to perform IVF.
Wang’s husband, Yu Xiaodong, was sentenced to 33 years and four months in prison by a Thai court in June last year. Wang filed for divorce, a process that involved extensive preparation and coordination with both Chinese and Thai authorities. In a September interview with 163.com, Wang admitted she was hesitant to find a boyfriend again and had developed a fear of males following her ordeal. Inspired by Ye Haiyang, a Chinese online celebrity and businesswoman, Wang decided to pursue financial independence and motherhood through IVF.
The announcement of Wang’s pregnancy has been met with overwhelming support and congratulations on social media. “I am in tears. You’ve borne too many hardships these years. No better news than your pregnancy!” commented one user. Another praised Wang and Ye Haiyang for opening new possibilities for women: “Nuannuan and Ye Haiyang have opened a new gate for us females.”
Wang Nuannuan’s story of resilience and hope continues to inspire many, showcasing her strength and determination to rebuild her life and embrace the future with optimism.
