CultureFilm & TvWallace & Gromit Return in "Vengeance Most Fowl" with a Hilarious AI Twist

Nick Park’s beloved duo, Wallace and Gromit, return in Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, a lighthearted yet thought-provoking exploration of humanity’s relationship with technology. Featuring a rogue “smart gnome” named Norbert, the film humorously examines the challenges of our reliance on tech while celebrating the joy of simpler pleasures.

Set in their cozy northern English town, the story begins with Wallace, the ever-optimistic inventor, and Gromit, his loyal and pragmatic dog, living peacefully. However, chaos soon ensues when Wallace introduces his latest creation: Norbert, a “smart gnome” designed to revolutionize gardening. Co-director Merlin Crossingham explained, “The straw that breaks the camel’s back for Gromit is when Wallace invents Norbert, who disrupts the simple joys Gromit holds dear.”

The film offers a playful critique of modern life. “We put our trust in tech all the time. It seems we’re addicted,” Park said. Gromit, who represents the human element, questions why we need gadgets that strip away the satisfaction of doing things ourselves.

First introduced in Park’s 1989 student short, A Grand Day Out, Wallace and Gromit have become iconic characters, synonymous with British Christmas traditions and celebrated worldwide. “I have to pinch myself constantly when I think about how much the franchise has grown over the years,” Park said.

Inspired by the cosy aesthetics of post-war British films from Ealing Studios, the animation blends modern themes with a timeless visual charm. The film’s nostalgic yet contemporary approach earned it a nomination for Best Animation at the upcoming Golden Globes, alongside Moana 2 and The Wild Robot. “To be recognized in these ways is an accolade in itself,” Park said.

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl will enjoy a limited theatrical release starting December 18 before airing on the BBC on Christmas Day, a fitting tribute to their enduring popularity in the UK. Fans worldwide can stream the film on Netflix from January 3.

With its humor, heart, and timely message, the latest Wallace and Gromit adventure promises to entertain audiences of all ages while sparking a gentle reflection on the role of technology in our lives.
