Sony Pictures has announced an ambitious cinematic event that will bring The Beatles’ story to the big screen in an unprecedented way. The project consists of four separate films, each focusing on the perspective of one of the legendary band members, with all set to premiere in April 2028. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sam Mendes, the films aim to offer fresh insights into the lives and careers of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
The highly anticipated cast was unveiled during the CinemaCon industry convention in Las Vegas. Paul Mescal, known for his roles in “Gladiator II” and “Aftersun,” will portray Paul McCartney. Harris Dickinson, star of “Babygirl,” has been cast as John Lennon. Barry Keoghan, who received critical acclaim for “The Banshees of Inisherin,” will take on the role of Ringo Starr. Joseph Quinn, recognized for his work in “Stranger Things” and “Gladiator II,” will play George Harrison.
Mendes assured audiences that, despite the countless documentaries and biopics dedicated to The Beatles, this project will provide a unique and unexplored perspective on their journey. The films are expected to be released in close succession, a move Sony Pictures executive Tom Rothman described as “the first bingeable theatrical experience.” The unconventional format is designed to create a cultural phenomenon, drawing audiences into theaters for a multi-film event centered on one of the most influential bands in music history.
The four actors made a surprise appearance on stage at CinemaCon, dressed in coordinated black outfits, bowing in unison—an iconic gesture reminiscent of Beatles performances. This moment set the tone for what is expected to be a major cinematic event. Sony has officially titled the project “The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event,” signaling its intent to dominate the entertainment landscape upon release.
With Mendes at the helm and a cast of rising stars, the films are poised to bring renewed interest in The Beatles’ legacy. Sony Pictures believes that this ambitious project will not only celebrate the band’s impact on music and culture but also reinvigorate the theater-going experience by offering an interconnected narrative unlike anything seen before.
