The China National Symphony Orchestra (CNSO) is set to enthrall music enthusiasts in 2024 with its newly announced concert season. The season promises an array of performances featuring both eminent local musicians and renowned international artists. This diverse lineup underscores CNSO’s commitment to presenting a rich tapestry of musical experiences.

The upcoming concert season is particularly notable for collaborations with world-class musicians. Artists such as Liao Changyong, Zhu Huiling, and Shi Yijie will be joined by international maestros like David Hoose, Andreas Delfs, and Hubert Soudant. These collaborations are expected to produce electrifying performances, combining unique styles and cultural influences.

The year 2024 also marks several significant milestones in the world of classical music, which CNSO plans to honor with special concerts. These include the 200th anniversary of symphonic titan Anton Bruckner’s birth, the 160th anniversary of Richard Strauss’s birth, the 100th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini’s death, and the 175th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin’s death. Fans of classical music will be treated to an array of major works and high-quality performances commemorating these iconic composers.

Zhou Yu, the Party chief of CNSO, expressed the orchestra’s dedication to delivering top-tier artistic experiences to audiences nationwide, emphasizing their commitment to excellence and intense performance energy.

The season will open with a bang on January 14, 2024, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts. The opening concert, titled ‘Footsteps of Giants,’ will feature conductor Shui Lan and baritone Liao Changyong. Another highlight is the ‘Romantic Colors’ concert scheduled for January 27, 2024, celebrating Bruckner’s bicentenary. This performance will bring together conductor David Hoose and cellist Lee Youngeun.

In another cultural milestone, the First Silk Road International Theater Alliance Investment Conference recently took place in Hainan Province’s Haikou and Dongfang. This event marks a significant step in promoting international collaboration in the performing arts sector.

The conference hosted over 60 guests, experts, and representatives from both domestic and international theater and performance institutions. Participants of the Silk Road International Theater Alliance and other key figures in the global theater scene engaged in a robust exchange of ideas and insights.

Key events during the conference included a stage work promotion meeting at the Hainan Provincial Museum. Here, esteemed guests, such as the head of the Mexico City Theater System and the general manager of the Esperanza Iris Theater, delivered insightful keynote speeches.

A cultural Transaction Forum also took place, focusing on the international promotion of outstanding plays. Discussions explored innovative theater operation and management models, and the evolving paths and models for the performing arts market in the modern technological era.

The Silk Road International Theater Alliance, an initiative under the Belt and Road banner, aspires to evolve into a leading international platform for performing arts exchange. This inaugural conference is a pivotal step toward fostering a global network for cultural and artistic collaboration, bridging diverse cultures and traditions through the universal language of the performing arts.
