Inside Lenny Kravitz’s Parisian Townhouse: A Reflection of Soulful Elegance

LifestyleInside Lenny Kravitz’s Parisian Townhouse: A Reflection of Soulful Elegance

Lenny Kravitz has long been known for his distinctive style, both in music and fashion — from oversized winter scarves that signal the change of seasons to his ever-present leather pants, even at the gym. But beyond his public image, Kravitz also offers a glimpse into his world through his homes, each reflecting different chapters of his life and creative journey. Among them is his Paris townhouse, a grand residence he discovered two decades ago in the city’s prestigious 16th arrondissement. Initially seeking a modest apartment near the Seine, Kravitz was persuaded by a real estate agent to view what he describes as a “once-in-a-generation” listing. Expecting to tour a single floor, he realized he was being shown the entire property. At first, he resisted, but once inside, he felt an immediate spiritual connection: “This is my house.”

The home, which once belonged to a countess, has since evolved into a vivid reflection of Kravitz’s personality and vision. Airy and expansive, it features an eclectic mix of traditional African artifacts, museum-quality art pieces, and custom furniture by his own studio, Kravitz Design, which was honored in the AD100 list in 2023. The interiors blend midcentury modern elements with European flair and Afrofuturist touches. Highlights include an eccentric wine room and a red-lit underground party space called “The Chaufferie,” now also used by his daughter, actor Zoë Kravitz, for social gatherings.

His walls are adorned with iconic works by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Richard Avedon, but perhaps the most meaningful is a portrait of his late grandfather, Albert Roker, taken by photographer Ruven Afanador. Roker, who attended the shoot for Kravitz’s 1995 album “Circus,” now holds a permanent place of honor above the dining table. The image serves as a tribute to the man Kravitz credits for shaping his family’s legacy—from his mother Roxie Roker’s career to his own artistic path and ultimately, Zoë’s success.

Calling his aesthetic “soulful elegance,” Kravitz embraces contrasts — comfort and glamor, brutality and refinement — all of which harmoniously coexist in a home that is as layered and expressive as the artist himself.
