Careem Launches 24-Carat Gold Delivery in Dubai Amid Rising Demand

LifestyleCareem Launches 24-Carat Gold Delivery in Dubai Amid Rising Demand

Dubai residents can now enjoy the convenience of ordering 24-carat gold coins straight to their doorstep in under an hour, thanks to a new service offered by Careem Technologies. The Dubai-based super app, originally a subsidiary of Uber Technologies in the Middle East, has expanded its offerings with the aim of capturing the interest of the UAE’s large Indian community. With a single order, users can purchase up to 10,000 dirhams, or approximately US$2,700, worth of physical gold. This initiative is timed to coincide with Akshaya Tritiya, a widely celebrated Hindu festival during which buying gold is considered particularly auspicious.

The gold available through the app is certified and supplied by Tanishq, the flagship brand of Titan Co., which is India’s largest jewellery company. Tanishq’s reputation for quality and authenticity adds a layer of trust to this unique digital offering, ensuring that customers receive genuine, certified 24-carat gold coins with their orders. The move appears to be a calculated effort to appeal to Indian expatriates, who make up roughly one-third of the UAE’s population of over 10 million people. With its tax advantages, economic opportunities, and increasingly digital services, the UAE continues to be a major destination for Indian professionals and families.

The timing of the service launch is particularly significant, as global economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions have driven investors toward traditional safe-haven assets like gold. In fact, the price of gold has surged by 25 percent this year alone, reaching an all-time high of US$3,500 per ounce last week after 27 consecutive record-breaking sessions. This unprecedented rally reflects a global shift toward preserving wealth amid fears of inflation and trade disruptions.

Careem, which already offers a wide array of services including food and grocery delivery, car rentals, laundry, home cleaning, money transfers, and even donation options, has added gold delivery without a formal announcement. This discreet rollout highlights the company’s ongoing strategy to become a comprehensive “everything app,” seamlessly integrating high-demand services into its platform. While Careem has not issued a statement on whether gold delivery will become a permanent feature, its alignment with cultural timing and economic trends positions it as a potentially popular addition to the app’s ecosystem in the UAE.
