The End of the Line for Popular Models
Xiaomi, known for its frequent device releases, is now drawing a line under software support for 19 of its smartphones and tablets. This decision affects a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly options to more premium models released in 2022. The primary reason cited for this shift is the hardware limitations of older chipsets, which are no longer capable of smoothly running the latest Android kernels required for new operating system versions.
Affected Devices and Support Timeline
While the exact end-of-life dates vary, many devices will see their support conclude throughout 2026. This means users will be stuck on their current Android version, with future HyperOS updates built upon that older foundation. Although security patches will continue for a limited time, they too will eventually stop, leaving devices vulnerable.

Should Users Upgrade?
While these devices won’t suddenly become unusable, the cessation of updates, particularly security patches, presents a growing risk, especially for users who handle sensitive information like online banking. The company does offer some newer devices with promises of up to four major Android OS updates and six years of software support.
