Microdrama platform ReelShort has joined forces with Endemol Shine Brasil for the Brazilian adaptation of its globally successful series, “Married at First Sight.” The new vertical-format microdrama, titled “De Repente Casados,” is set to premiere exclusively on ReelShort on April 18, marking a significant step in ReelShort’s strategy to expand its international content offerings.

The original “Married at First Sight” microdrama, launched in 2023, has achieved remarkable success, amassing over 227 million views worldwide. This adaptation for the Brazilian market, “De Repente Casados,” aims to replicate this success by leveraging local talent and cultural relevance. The series will feature 89 episodes, all in a vertical format designed for mobile viewing.

Leading the cast of “De Repente Casados” are Laryssa Ayres and Ricardo Vianna, actors already experienced with the vertical format. Veteran actor Adriano Garib will also make a special appearance. The project is under the direction of Rogério Passos, a well-respected figure in Brazilian television drama.

The narrative follows Sabrina (Ayres), who finds her life upended after a devastating betrayal by her boyfriend. Her path then crosses with Christian Noronha Jr. (Vianna), a wealthy and calculating CEO. Under family pressure to marry for business stability, he proposes a marriage of convenience that could alter both their lives forever. The series explores themes of redemption, power, identity, and unexpected love, driven by rapid plot twists and intense emotional conflicts.

Strategic Partnership for Mobile-First Audiences

Endemol Shine Brasil brings its extensive experience in localizing content, high-quality audiovisual production, and adapting international formats to the Brazilian audience. Nani Freitas, CEO at Endemol Shine Brasil, emphasized Brazil’s position as a leading mobile-first entertainment market. “In response, Endemol Shine Brasil is expanding its presence in this space, leveraging its expertise in high-quality production and its ability to adapt global formats and guidelines into culturally relevant, locally resonant stories,” Freitas stated.

Maritza Castro, ReelShort’s Lead Producer for Latin America, echoed this sentiment, saying, “At ReelShort, we believe great stories are built locally. Partnering with Brazilian talent and crews allows us to bring authentic, culturally resonant stories to life.”

This collaboration is part of Endemol Shine Brasil’s broader expansion into the microdrama space, including a recent partnership with A Fábrica to create a slate of vertical-format microdramas. The company has also produced numerous microdramas in partnership with Kwai and renewed its collaboration with Meta for vertical soaps developed for brands.
