K-pop’s CIX: Rivalry, New EP, and Favorite Songs

CultureK-pop's CIX: Rivalry, New EP, and Favorite Songs

Five-member K-pop boy band CIX, who made their debut in 2019, recently released their sixth EP titled “OK” Episode 2: I’m OK in May 2023. The group members sat down to discuss their journey, the underlying theme of their new EP, and their favorite B-side track.

The origins of CIX can be traced back eight years ago when two members, BX and Seunghun, first crossed paths as idol trainees. Little did they know at the time that their paths would converge, leading them to form CIX in 2019 under C9 Entertainment. The name CIX stands for “Complete in X,” representing the group’s pursuit of completeness and growth.

BX reflects on their early days, sharing, “Seunghun and I belonged to different teams at YG Entertainment, so we were competitors. We had to go head-to-head in various situations.” They even competed against each other on the survival show “YG Treasure Box” in 2018, which ultimately gave birth to the boy band Treasure.

Seunghun playfully recalls, “When I first came to our dormitory, BX didn’t exactly welcome me. But it was understandable because debuting is a matter of survival for all idol trainees.” BX clarifies that it wasn’t a personal dislike, stating, “I was just curious about this new rival’s presence. But now, we are very close, and Seunghun loves to play pranks on me.”

CIX debuted with three other members—Bae Jin-young, Yonghee, and Hyunsuk—and released their first EP, “Hello Chapter 1: Hello, Stranger.” Now, in May 2023, they have unveiled their sixth EP, “OK” Episode 2: I’m OK. The members reveal that the EP revolves around the theme of youth.

BX elaborates on the concept, saying, “Our EP delves into the beautiful yet tragic time of youth, which holds significant meaning in our lives. It explores how individuals discover their true colors after going through this transformative period.” The members pour their emotions and experiences into the songs, capturing the essence of youthfulness and self-discovery.

With each new release, CIX continues to captivate their fans with their talent and growth as artists. Their journey from rival trainees to close-knit group members exemplifies the power of collaboration and shared aspirations. As they embark on this new chapter with their latest EP, “OK” Episode 2: I’m OK, CIX invites their listeners to join them in exploring the vibrant and transformative journey of youth.
