BusinessSanya's Tourism Sector Sees Boost as Visitors Flock to "Edges of Heaven, Corners of the Sea"

Sanya, a coastal resort city in South China’s Hainan province, is seeing a surge in tourism as visitors flock to Tianya Haijiao, a famous tourist attraction. The site, also known as “Edges of Heaven, Corners of the Sea”, has expanded its tourism programs in recent years, attracting visitors with its stunning sea views, seaside bookstores, and scenic boat rides.

To support the tourism sector, Sanya authorities have established government funds to subsidize tourism companies and upgrade facilities at tourist sites. These efforts have paid off, as Sanya recorded more than 1.6 million tourist trips during the recent Spring Festival holiday alone, with total tourism revenue of 4.87 billion yuan ($710.45 million), up 25.98 percent year-on-year.

To ensure the safety and satisfaction of visitors, local authorities have introduced a tourism supervision mechanism, with joint patrols by market supervisors, law enforcement officials, and public security staff. Many tourism investment companies have also invested in improving their facilities, such as the Daxiao Dongtian scenic area’s new sea bridge and camping site.

Sanya’s tourism development is part of a larger plan for Hainan, which aims to build the island province into an international tourism and consumption center by 2025 and a globally influential tourism and consumption destination by 2035. The province plans to increase the number of tourists and tourism revenues by 20 percent and 25 percent, respectively, this year, according to Feng Fei, governor of Hainan.

With its stunning natural beauty and booming tourism sector, Sanya is well on its way to becoming a top destination for travelers in China and beyond.
