Authorities in Guangdong are calling on overseas Chinese to participate in the province’s efforts to achieve high-quality development. According to Huang Kunming, the Party secretary of Guangdong, a significant number of overseas Chinese who have made important contributions to the province’s development have their roots in Guangdong. He made the statement at the China Overseas Chinese Investment Conference in Guangzhou on Saturday.

Guangdong is offering tremendous opportunities for investment, particularly with the ongoing construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the establishment of Shenzhen as a demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and the development of Hengqin, Qianhai, and Nansha as major cooperation platforms. The province’s rural areas also hold potential for high-quality development.

According to Wan Lijun, the chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the conference will help build a cooperative and mutually beneficial platform between overseas Chinese and local governments. The federation will also strengthen its strategic cooperation with Guangdong.

Guangdong has more than 30 million overseas Chinese, accounting for over half of all overseas Chinese living in more than 160 countries and regions. In addition, over 88,000 returned overseas Chinese and more than 30 million relatives of overseas Chinese live in the province.

Enterprises invested by overseas Chinese make up more than half of all foreign-funded enterprises in Guangdong. Overseas Chinese have also donated about 60 billion yuan ($8.63 billion) to public welfare projects in the province.

According to Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of Chia Tai Group, Guangdong has been a key location for investment by his company, and they are relying on their complete industrial chain and advanced technology to promote the industrialization and modernization of the province’s agricultural sector.

Koo Yuen Kim, chairman of Perfect (China) Co, expressed his confidence in the long-term development of the Chinese market, stating that consumption in China is recovering, and the vitality of the market is strengthening.

Chau Chak Wing, chairman of Kingold Group, believes that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area presents limitless business opportunities and that the province’s high-quality development has bright prospects, which will provide strong impetus to the global economic recovery.}
