China opens new cargo consolidation hub for China-Europe freight trains

BusinessChina opens new cargo consolidation hub for China-Europe freight trains

A new cargo consolidation hub has been inaugurated in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning province in Northeast China. The China Railway Express (Shenyang) Hub covers a land area of 92,000 square meters, with 80,000 square meters under customs supervision. The hub has a capacity of storing 3,000 twenty-foot equivalent units and can handle up to 1,000 China-Europe freight trains per year.

The launch of this hub will further support the development of China-Europe freight trains in Shenyang and pave the way for the creation of a “road-rail-sea” multimodal international logistics hub with logistics services linking Shenyang and the sea ports of Yingkou and Dalian in Liaoning.

Li Haiping, deputy manager of the operation department with the China Railway Express (Shenyang) Hub Construction and Operation Co Ltd, expressed his confidence that the operation of the hub will help meet the growing demand for China-Europe freight trains in the region.

This new cargo consolidation hub is part of China’s broader efforts to strengthen its logistics infrastructure and support the growth of international trade. With its location in Northeast China, the hub is strategically positioned to facilitate the transportation of goods between China and Europe.

The China-Europe freight train service has become increasingly popular in recent years, offering a faster and more cost-effective alternative to shipping goods by sea. In 2021, the number of China-Europe freight trains rose by 54 percent year-on-year, with a total of 14,500 trains making the journey between China and Europe. The launch of this new hub in Shenyang is expected to further boost this trend and support the growth of trade between China and Europe.
