An international seed expo opened on Saturday in North China’s Tianjin municipality, with the aim of promoting technological innovation in the seed industry. The 14th China International Seed Expo covers an exhibition area of over 20,000 square meters at the main venue, showcasing a wide range of seed products and advanced technology in the seed industry. More than 1,200 companies, universities, and institutions, as well as seed production bases, are participating in the three-day event.
The expo will also feature forums on topics such as biological breeding, industrialization and intellectual property protection. Wan Jianmin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that for many years China has achieved bumper grain harvests, with absolute security in staple foods and basic self-sufficiency in grains. The per unit yield of rice and wheat in China is higher than the global average.
Xie Yuan, vice mayor of Tianjin, emphasized that the event provides a platform for experts and entrepreneurs to exchange ideas and promote cooperation, which will help with China’s science and technological development in the seed industry. With China’s increasing population, ensuring food security is a top priority, and technological innovation in the seed industry plays a crucial role in achieving this.
In recent years, China has made significant strides in developing high-yield, high-quality crop varieties through technological innovation, and has achieved a number of important breakthroughs in the field of seed science. Through the expo, the industry is expected to gain more insights and opportunities for growth, as well as to contribute to the sustainable development of agriculture in China and the world.
