BusinessBangkok-Shanghai Economic Conference Focuses on Green Initiatives

The sixth edition of the Bangkok-Shanghai Economic Conference took place on August 16, organized by the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Shanghai in collaboration with the Shanghai Foreign Investment Development Board, also known as Invest Shanghai. The conference was centered around the theme “Advancing Green Partnership between Thailand and the Yangtze River Delta (YRD)” and saw the participation of approximately 200 attendees, including government officials, business leaders, and representatives from various business associations.

Prinat Apirat, the Consul-General of Thailand in Shanghai, advocated for stronger cooperation between Thailand and the YRD region in areas such as low-carbon technologies, bi-directional business and investment in the green sector, and investments in green finance and environment, social, and governance (ESG).

Zhu Yi, the Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, expressed that Shanghai is committed to fostering deeper exchanges between China and Thailand in the domains of green and low-carbon energy production, energy conservation, and environmental protection. He emphasized that this collaboration would not only facilitate technical exchanges and project cooperation between the two nations but also provide a robust impetus for the advancement of economic, trade, and investment relations.

Since its inception in 2018, the annual Bangkok-Shanghai Economic Conference has been instrumental in catalyzing closer economic ties between Thailand and the entire YRD region. This year, the conference spotlighted three key areas of common interest for both Thailand and the YRD: green technology, green industry, and green finance.

The emphasis on green initiatives during this conference reflects a growing awareness and commitment from both Thailand and the YRD region to adopt more sustainable practices in response to global challenges such as climate change. The discussions and proposals raised during the conference underscored the importance of international collaboration in achieving sustainability goals and highlighted the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships in the green sector.

As global attention continues to shift towards sustainable development, it is imperative for regions like Thailand and the YRD to actively engage in dialogue and cooperation that can lead to the creation of a more sustainable and resilient future for both parties.
